How Nitrogen Generation Operates

Membrane separation
Membrane generators push compressed air through a membrane. Oxygen and water vapour pass through the walls, leaving nitrogen behind. These units produce nitrogen at 95% to 99.5% purity.
Pressure Swing Adsorption
These generators use carbon molecular sieves. Oxygen molecules stick to the sieve under pressure whilst nitrogen passes through.
The system uses two chambers – one produces nitrogen, while the other releases oxygen at a lower pressure. This method produces nitrogen up to 99.999% pure.
