Compressed air storage
Air Receivers for Compressed Air Systems in Scotland
Often an air receiver / vessel is the most undervalued component of a compressed air compressor system. This compressed air tank is critical, as without this stored air volume to act as a buffer for peak demand, your compressors may be frequently cycling to meet the required demand. This wastes energy costs and dramatically decreases the life of the compressor.
At Design Air, we are specialists based in Scotland, and can help you to configure and supply any size of air receiver you may require, including leading brands like Atlas Copco.

Why Design Air
Why choose an Air Receiver From Design Air?
Help to Specify Receiver
Unsure on what size of receiver your system requires? What port sizes will you will need? Painted finish or fully galvanised? Horizontal or Vertical? At Design Air we’re specialists in designing and specifying compressed air systems, as such let us help you determine what size and configuration of air receiver you need.
Custom Made Options
Perhaps you need a large air receiver but don’t quite have the room to fit a standard vertical unit in your compressor room. Or perhaps you require inlet and outlet ports in particular positions. Regardless of your requirements, at Design Air we can help you customise an air receiver to be built from scratch to suit your requirements.
Stock Availability
At Design Air we have access to a large range of standard size vertical air receiver stock from 500 – 3,000L. If you need a new or replacement air receiver quickly, contact us to see what we can do for you.

The range
Our Full Range of Air Receivers
As a proud partner and supplier of Atlas Copco equipment in the UK, we provide their full range of market-leading air receivers, ensuring quality, reliability, and technical excellence for our customers across Glasgow and all of Scotland.
Atlas Copco LV & HTA Series
For most industrial applications, we recommend the standard vertical LV series, known for its durability and space-saving design. For more demanding processes requiring higher pressures, we can supply the HTA high-pressure air receiver stores, designed to safely handle pressures up to 45 bar.
Air Receivers for On-board Marine Applications
We also have specialist expertise in receivers for on-board marine applications. These vessels are purpose-built to withstand the harshest marine environments, with advanced hot-dip galvanised finishes to prevent corrosion and full certification from all major classification societies. If you require air receivers for on-board marine use, contact our specialist team.
Safety and compliance
Safety, Maintenance, and UK Legal Compliance
An air receiver is a safety-critical component. Proper maintenance and legal compliance are not optional.
Maintenance and Essential Components
To ensure the overall performance and safety of your system, your air receiver should be equipped with several key components. This includes a pressure gauge, a pressure relief valve (which is designed to release pressure from the tank if it reaches its maximum allowable level), and a drain valve. The presence of moisture can lead to internal corrosion, which could pose a safety risk. To prevent this, the receiver must be drained daily. We highly recommend an electronic drain valve or a zero-loss float drain to automate this process, protecting your investment and ensuring the quality of your product.
Legal Compliance: Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) 2000
Air receivers are subject to strict legal requirements under UK law (PSSR 2000) because they contain stored energy. The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR) apply if your system operates at 0.5 bar or more and contains compressed air.
If your pressure system has a pressure (bar) multiplied by volume (litres) greater than 250 bar-litres, you are legally required to have a Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) in place before use. This WSE must be produced and certified by a “Competent Person” and outlines the required examinations, typically carried out annually.
Design Air offers full PSSR consultation and compliance services. We can produce your WSE and carry out the required examinations, often integrating them with your routine industrial air compressor service visits to reduce hassle and cost.
